Alt-Right Arrow Inserts a Spade Symbol

Recommended Posts

I'm using Windows 10 and a surface book 2, and when I try to adjust kerning in Affinity Photo or Photoshop using the alt-right arrow or alt-left arrow shortcut keys after I press the combination, a symbol is inserted.  Alt-right arrow inserts a spade and Alt-left arrow inserts a diamond.  Is there any way to disable this behavior?

You can see in the photo of the history as soon as I loosened the kerning, a symbol was inserted.  I'd like to disable the symbol from inserting if possible.

Hi Gabe - I understand it’s not an Affinity feature. It happens in Photoshop as well. I believe it’s a Windows feature that I can’t figure out how to disable. I am hoping there is another windows user who has had the same issue and found a way to fix it.

Though it might be (don't know) that AutoHotkey may influences/conflicts with APh or disables those hotkeys then completely here then.

It might change behavior with the FN or (CAPS + FN) keys then, see ...

I thought I had the same issue in Photoshop as I do in Affinity Photo and Designer but I don't.  The keyboard shortcut for kerning works as expected in Photoshop but inserts a special character in both affinity programs.

EDIT - I figured out that if I hold down the Del key at the same time, the special characters are not inserted.

Good morning - if the issue persisted in across all applications I would agree that there is something with the keyboard settings on my Surface Book.  I think the arrow keys on my laptop are being treated as the same as the number pad arrow keys in certain applications like Word, Powerpoint, Affinity Photo, and Affinity Designer but not Photoshop, Chrome, Excel.  I found a workaround but I'm curious if I'm the only person that works on a laptop with no number pad that has this issue.
