1. Haven't been able to get the spell checker to function in earlier and current beta version.

Language is UK English. Tools show dictionary located at: C:\Program Files\Affinity\Publisher Public Beta\Resources\Dictionaries\en-GB.

Have uninstalled earlier beta versions and freshly installed the latest, but no different.

All boxes are checked in the Auto Correct option.

2. Will you include a thesaurus in Publisher?

I'm currently using PagePlus 9 for text and copying text across, Otherwise like what I've used so far in Publisher.

Cheers.

Welcome to the Affinity forums, John.

For #1: For spell-checking to work you need to specify the text language (which is separate from the UI language that is specified in the Preferences). You can specify the text language in two different places, depending on your workflow. With a Text Frame selected (before entering text), or with some text selected to change that text's language:

  • In the Character studio panel, under Language.
  • In the Text Style that you have assigned to the text, again under Language.

Auto-Correct is not, strictly speaking, part of spell-checking, but it would also depend on the language you've specified for the text as above.

Thanks for responding Walt.

Yes, shows in preferences as "English (United Kingdom)" and shows the same in auto correct, but spell checker doesn't work.

Preferences is just for the UI (user interface) language, John. And Auto-correct has settings for various languages.

What's important for spell-checking is the language of the text itself, and that's set in the Character panel, under Language (or in the Text Style, again under Language).

Good to hear that it's working.

Not sure that I'd find a thesaurus very useful for Publisher. But it has been suggested by some other users already, over in the Publisher discussion forum. Perhaps Serif will consider implementing one for Affinity someday. For now I would suggest using an external one.
