Welcome to Affinity Forums :)

If you are referring to applying to regular gradients (linear, elliptical, radial etc) to shapes, yes. If you are referring to gradient meshes, no - currently Affinity Designer doesn't have them. This is on Affinity Designer's roadmap to be implemented in a future version during the 1.x cycle (before v2).

Not meshes. Exemple, between a blue rectangle to a yellow circle. Illustrator creates the intermediate shapes while dragging the color from blue to yellow.
It's a very old tool in Illustrator, and very useful. See attached file.
