Turn off multiple click to access layers

In one of my projects, I have a tree like layer structure, with groups inside groups inside groups. When looking at the main middle part of the screen, if you click on an object which is inside a group which again is inside a group, you must continually double click to access the individual component you are clicking. Is there are way to turn this off? It is incredibly time wasting and annoying.

If you are on a Mac, hold down Command and click your object. I would guess, it works the same on a PC.

You're right, with "Ctrl" instead of "Cmd".
