LukeN Posted February 16, 2018 Posted February 16, 2018 I am brand new to Affinity, so I hope I haven't missed something obvious. I want to place numbers on photos to be able to reference them. I have down loaded fonts that have numbers encircled with a outline. Both black numbers in a white circle and white numbers with a black circle. I load a photo as background layer, then add text layer and insert the circled number I want using the font. The white part of the image is transparent and the image from the background shows through. Is it possible to use these types of fonts to number photos keeping the white portions white and not transparent? Thanks Quote
firstdefence Posted February 16, 2018 Posted February 16, 2018 What you have probably seen is a font on a white background but in truth what looks like a white background is actually transparent, by the way, what font is it? You could just type a number and put a black or white circle behind it. One of the issues with fonts like this is what happens at 10, 100, 1000 do you want a string of circles with numbers in them? or would it be better to either just have a number in a text like Arial Black or just Arial as in the screenshot or like I mentioned earlier, type a number and create a filled circle behind it. To see what the font has go to View > Studio > Gylph Browser at the top of the panel select the font you want to view and this will show you all of the Glyphs contained. This will give you an idea of its limitations. To create a circled number... Pick a font you like choose Centre Align Type your number Press <ESC> (if you don't do this the next keys you press will type) Press <U> twice on the keyboard to select the Ellipse Tool or Select the Ellipse Tool from the side menu. Now left click, press and hold <Shift> and pull diagonally, down or up, either way will draw an ellipse (<Shift> gets you a perfect circle) Select the number and the circle layer and align to vertical and horizontal centres. Scale to suit. Alfred 1 Quote iMac 27" 2019 Sequoia 15.0 (24A335), iMac 27" Affinity Designer, Photo & Publisher V1 & V2, Adobe, Inkscape, Vectorstyler, Blender, C4D, Sketchup + more...
