AD: Layer order modifying, selecting objects

Recommended Posts

Hi!

First, Affinity is wonderful, I'm amazed how it changed my workflow so far. But there is some minor stuff that I find really unintuitive.

First, and most used is drag'n'drop of items in layers panel. I find it pretty hard to use, especially when there is option to drop under certain element or as a child. Because insert line is blue and "ghost" of moved item is also bluish the latter kinda covers insert line making hard to say whether I'm dropping it at the same level or as a child of item above. Disclaimer: I have pretty good eyesight ;). The second thing about layers is that I find extremely annoying that I can't drop items on another items - I have to aim beneath the targeted group. That's far from being handy.

And this is more like a question. Is there any way to select items with selection box by starting dragging on top of another items without moving them (i.e. shift+drag)? The only solution I have found so far i to turn outline view on.

Hi Kamil Dyrek,

Welcome to Affinity Forums :)

Thanks for your feedback. Regarding dragging items over another items, you don't have to aim beneath the targeted group. You can simply drop the item over the main target layer and it will be placed as a child. In there any case you can't do it?

Regarding your second question about selecting objects over other objects - without any object selected press and hold ⌥ (option/alt) then start drawing the marquee around the objects you want to select. This will do want you want.

Ok, now i see that. It would be nice if this action was indicated by outlining whole target's bar or by any kind of interaction.

Doh... I swear i tried it. My bad. And thank you.
