verysame
I've noticed that every raw I open, they always show a histogram underexposed. Now, despite I tend to shoot a little underexposed, the histogram doesn't look right. Here's the same image, without any intervention, opened in Develop Persona first: And then in Photo: Not to mention, the difference with ACR. I understand they are two different engines, but is it normal to have such a difference? love-sietspl 1 Quote Andrew - Win10 x64 AMD Threadripper 1950x, 64GB, 512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD + 2TB, dual GTX 1080ti Dual Monitor Dell Ultra HD 4k P2715Q 27-Inch
Kodiak
• Right, very tricky situation! This is a reason I cannot rely on that persona for my RAW files. Maybe one way to explain it would be the "container" used to measure the DR of a data file. AP's container could be of great- ter capacity than the measured sample. I mean if your file was captured at a 8~10 stops DR and AP's "con- tanner" is capable of say 12~14 stops DR, there will be some "un- derexposure" expressed in the histogram. I am not into the bells and whistles of applications but just trying to understand, finding some explanations… and relative DR could be an explanation. verysame
Thanks for chiming in, Kodiak. Following your hint, I think the situation should be the opposite? I mean, let's assume for a moment that the issue it's actually related to the DR and let's assume that AP's DR, in this case, is less than the camera's, then whatever falls outside AP's DR becomes under or over exposed, as AP wouldn't know how to interpret the data. Hm... does that make sense? I don't know, I'm lost, ha! :) Anyway, there are a couple of things in Develop Persona that definitely need some love. This is one of those, as everytime it throws me off. The other is shadows & highlights, which both behave really weird. As soon as I bump up the shadows, all shadows get muddy, as if a layer of flat color would be applied. And highlights seem are not capable of recovering that much. Then, I really wish there was an HSL feature, and now I'm derailing the thread myself! EVM80D
I am also experiencing this problem. Where does AP stand on this matter? Does anyone know?
EVM80D
Update: In my case I found that setting the Development Assistant tone curve setting to "apply tone curve" was the remedy. Watching the AP Vimeo tutorial on Maximizing Raw Latitude provided the clue. Jump on the Affinity web page and look under the AP Tutorials.
