Grid barely visible with transparent document

Recommended Posts

Hi,

just bought Designer and it's so great! I'm really happy you've decided to make the Windows version.

I'm trying to draw a small icon with grid displayed:

However I want the background to be transparent, but when I modify the document settings, the grid becomes almost invisible:

Is there an option to modify how the transparent "chessboard" looks like or how to keep the white background without actually exporting it?

Thanks and keep up a good work guys!

Hi dreo,

Welcome to Affinity Forums :)

Go to menu View ▸ Grid and Axis Manager... and change the colour of the Grid lines (and Subdivision lines) there.

There's no way to change the chessboard background. If you want to the keep the white background and still export the file without it you can do so selecting the object/layer/group/artboard in the Layers panel and selecting Selection without background from the Area dropdown in the Export dialog.

Alternatively you can set the background to Transparent background in the Document Setup dialog, draw a white rectangle with the same dimensions as the document and place in on the bottom of the Layers panel (Draw Persona), then in Export Persona, Layers panel, set it to invisible on export (the second eye icon counting from right). Use the Slices panel to export the top layer (which is the whole document). The white rectangle will not be included on the exported file.
