Yesterday, I purchased Affinity from the AppStore. I opened a photo, worked on it, saved it to my desktop as affinity file, closed Affinity, then double clicked my desktop file, when it failed to open in my prior Affinity Beta app, so I trashed that version and tried again, only this time it was trying to open in Skitch. I trashed Affinity and installed it again from the AppStore. I still have the same problem. HELP!!!!! Thank you. I am using Affinity 1.4.2

on OS 10.10.5

1. From Finder, select (highlight) any .afphoto file.

2. Press CMD + i or select "Get Info" from the File menu.

3. In the Info window that opens, in the "Open with" section, choose Affinity Photo,

4. Click the "Change all..." button.

Note: you can do the same thing with other file types AP can open (like TIFF or JPEG) by following the steps above but starting with a file of that type in step one. You can also do this just for individual files by omitting step 4.

Thank you, R-CR. I had actually tried that once, not realizing there was an option at the bottom of the window that could enable me to select the application AP, which AP was greyed out. The two options being 'recommended' or 'all' the applications. Selecting 'all' gave me access to AP. I hope it will be set to open any future saved files from AP.

Once you click the "Change All" button for any .afphoto file, you should be able to open any file with that extension by double-clicking on it.

But there is something odd about all this. When you download & install Affinity Photo from the app store, the OS should automatically recognize that it can open .afphoto files (among others), so it should never be grayed out or not be among the recommended apps in the Info window -- in fact, only Affinity Photo, any beta version of it you have installed, Affinity Designer, & any beta version of that you have installed should be recommended for (or capable of) opening .afphoto files.

If that did not happen after you got the retail version, it suggests something might be amiss with your OS.
