Opaline Posted March 16 Posted March 16 (edited) I have the following bug on iPad. I copy from SD card a compressed Fuji Raw file. I open the raw file in Affinity Photo. I develop the file & use a linked file. Developing work (cropping, exposure correction...). I go back to the main Affinity Photo window My file is showing [M], I save the file. A pop-up opens asking for file name & location. Save .afphoto file is created. From the main Affinity Photo Window, I open the photo again. It is pixelated. Like if a thumbnail was loaded instead of the raw file. I have the same behavior if close the file and open the .afphoto file. I have attached a screen recording of the issue. I have been able to reproduce it by opening different Raw files and having the same bug. I hope we can find a way to solve this, as this is not very convenient. Material used: Ipad 8th generation IpadOS: 18.3.1 Affinity photo is up to date Kind Regards, Opaline Bug ipad.mp4 Edited March 17 by Opaline changed the attachment for a smaller file Quote
Staff NathanC Posted March 17 Staff Posted March 17 Welcome to the forums @Opaline, Since your Develop output is set to 'Linked' the app is likely re-establishing the link from the app to your RAW file's location when the file is opened and shows a temporary cached preview of the RAW file. If I follow your steps on an M2 iPad, the initial preview appears lower quality, but only on a very short basis with the full-resolution version updating on the canvas a few seconds later. Perhaps try leaving it a little while longer to see if it updates. Alternatively, use the 'Embedded' output from the Develop persona. Quote
Opaline Posted March 17 Author Posted March 17 I thank you for your answer. I have thought of leaving the iPad running. But I have waited as long as 6 minutes without any effect, so I do believe the application is not loading the data from the linked raw file. When I checked the linked resource, I can see that the raw file is indeed linked and Affinity Photo seems happy. If I use an embedded raw file, I do not have the issue. So this also indicates an issue with loading the data from the linked raw file. I have uninstalled and installed again the app. I have tried with other raw file but I have always the same issue with linked files. What I find interesting is that opening on my Mac, the afphoto file created on the iPad works fine. It finds the raw file next to it without any issue. And the opposite is interesting. I open a raw file on my Mac, develop it and generate a linked afphoto file. If I open the file on the iPad the image is pixelated. What I am trying to achieve is to be able to develop raw files on the go with my iPad and to store the raw files & afphoto files in iCloud. So when I come home, I will find all my data easily and will just have to copy those into my normal directory structure. Unfortunately, I am less interested in embedded file as so far my workflow on my computer is based on linked afphoto files and it duplicates the raw data. It would be interesting to see if other people have the same issue with linked raw files. Thanks in advance for the support, Opaline Quote
