Greybard Posted March 15 Posted March 15 Hello! I think I've found a bug, but I want to make sure I'm not missing something before I go and submit a bug report. This is new behavior, I was able to export pdfs with bookmarks without this issue before 2.6.x. I generate my pdf bookmarks from a table of contents in the very first chapter of my book. Then, when I export with bookmarks, every single chapter's bookmarks are exported inside parent bookmarks named "Chapter 1". I've attached images to show my export settings, TOC settings, an example of one of the chapter's anchors, the chapters in the book itself, and the exported bookmark structure. Important to note, none of my chapters, anchors, or any of the headings are simple called "Chapter 1", yet this is what's exported. It seems like the export is forcing each chapters bookmarks into a parent folder, which is how I've seen it work in the past - but it's getting each chapter's name wrong and, for whatever reason, simply substituting the chapter's name with "Chapter 1" for every chapter. I've tried all kinds of combinations of export setting changes that seemed like they might help (like "Chapters as Pages", toggling "tagged pdf", both of which don't seem related), have regenerated the TOC under both this latest version. I also tried regenerating the ToC and exporting with bookmarks in the beta version, which I saw fixed a bug to do with only exporting Chapter 1 bookmarks. Given that bug doesn't quite describe my particular issue, I was not surprised to find that the issue remained. For what it's worth, I also attempted these things on a separate computer with the same results. The bookmark structure is almost perfect - I just need the chapter 1 folders in the exported bookmark to not exist and, instead, include my actual chapter headers. Failing that, I'd be happy with having the folders based off of the chapter names shown in the book and I can turn off the bookmark flag on the chapter heading anchors. Any help? Anyone else having this issue? I have a hobby project that I've communicated I'd export this for this week, and this is a very unexpected issue that's setting back my ability to deliver. Quote
MikeTO Posted March 15 Posted March 15 I'm unable to duplicate this. Where is it getting "Chapter 1" from? The filename is "Chapter 1 - Getting Started" with a dash and the anchor is "Chapter 1: Getting Started" with a colon but I don't see any anchors named just "Chapter 1". Perhaps look in each chapter's anchors panel to see if there are anchors named "Chapter 1"? Hangman Posted March 15 Posted March 15 Hi @Greybard and welcome to the forums, Check the Document Information Title for each Chapter under Window → References → Fields. My guess is they all say Chapter 1, which, if they do, will result in the PDF Bookmarks all being labelled Chapter 1. If that isn't the case, can you upload your document so we can take a look? Ding ding ding!! This was the issue. This seems to be new behavior to a more recent version, my previous exports didn't behave this way. But I won't complain about more control! Thanks for taking the time to answer! Hangman 1 Quote

That's no problem at all... Yes, I believe this is a change from earlier versions but I'm glad it resolves the mystery for you...
