Affin User Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 Hi. This isn't a v2-bug-related question but the forum wouldn't let me post this without selecting an inappropriate topic. My question is: I've created an SVG whose objects' edges go beyond the frame/document/art board. I'm trying to clip off the extra bits that appear/go beyond the frame/document. I've tried the crop tool, and while this makes things look cropped, once I export the SVG, all the extra bits still appear in it. Can you let me know how to export an SVG that only includes what appears within the document/art board rectangle and not beyond its borders? Thanks. Quote
GarryP Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 When you press the “Start new topic” button on the Home Page you can select the section you want to create the thread in. Not all of the options are immediately available and you may need to open an ‘area header’ to see the sections in that area. (Serif are aware that this ‘trips up’ a lot of new forum members but they might not be able to change the forum software enough to make this better.) See attached image where the “Affinity Support & Questions” area needs be opened by pressing the little arrow to reveal the sections. When you press the “Start new topic” button anywhere else you can only create a new thread in the section you are in at the time, which also ‘trips up’ quite a few people. You can start a thread in a specific section by navigating to that section and pressing the “Start new topic” button there. A moderator might move this thread for you so there’s no need to duplicate this elsewhere. Quote
GarryP Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 The Vector Crop Tool only does a ‘visual crop’ rather than ‘slicing off’ the parts outside of the crop. To do a ‘proper crop’ you can use the Geometry functionalities, and others, to remove the unwanted parts of (maybe a copy of) the design. Quote
Affin User Posted December 28, 2024 Author Posted December 28, 2024 Many thanks. Could I trouble you to let me know which "Geometry" functionalities you're referring to? If you mean things such as "Divide," "Xor," "Intersect," "Subtract," and so on, I've tried all of these without luck. (They usually just make my selections disappear.) Quote

In general, try adding one or more rectangles that encompass all of the off canvas/artboard items & use subtraction to delete them. (If you can post a simplified example of your SVG so we can see how many elements are partially off-canvas & how your layers are organized someone will probably post a more complete solution.)
