A regression was introduced in the new 2.5.6 update across all three apps impacts both Mac and Windows, and on iPad the export fails to complete. Under certain circumstances, PDF files fail to export, instead displaying the following error message...

ExportError.png

Sorry that this regression was introduced, and we will be releasing a version 2.5.7 shortly which does not have this problem.

Description:

When exporting files containing RGB JPG and PNG files when using the following PDF Presets if Embed Profiles is unchecked, which is default on when using PDF (digital high-quality):

  • PDF (for print)
  • PDF (press ready)
  • PDF (digital high-quality)
  • PDF (for export)

When placing images that don't contain an embedded ICC Profile when the Placed DPI for the image is below 375 dpi if and only if the Placed image is contained within the document page bounds,

Simple Workaround:

The simple workaround is to check Embed Profiles in the PDF Export window, and the error is avoided whether your images would have triggered it.

Workaround, but with Enable Profiles still Unchecked

Certain print workflows require no ICC Profile to be embedded in the exported PDF making the simple workaround option unsuitable. There are additional workarounds for that scenario detailed below...
(Enable Profiles Unchecked) Workaround 1
Ensure your Placed image contains an embedded ICC Profile...

(Enable Profiles Unchecked) Workaround 2
Swap any PNG or JPEG files for TIFF, PSD or .afphoto versions...

(Enable Profiles Unchecked) Workaround 3
Ensure the respective Placed DPI for any image files is a minimum of 375 dpi (or whatever the resample dpi is set to on the dialog which can be reduced). This may mean adjusting the export settings for the source image (where possible) to ensure that once placed and resized the image's Placed DPI is 375 dpi or greater...

(Enable Profiles Unchecked) Workaround 4
Enlarge full-page images slightly so they exceed the document page bounds, which will mean they are resampled anyway...

Demonstration of Workarounds 1, 3 and 4 when Checking Embed Profiles is Not an Option
