After updating to 2.5.6 on Windows I can't get Affinity to show up that circular line for a Clone Brush Tool that indicated the size of the tool when changing it. I think this isn't caused by a setting but a new 'feature'.  This type of cursor is still shown for the Dodge Brush Tool (e.g.).
I use the Clone Brush Tool regulary while cleansing spots on photos. Depending on the photo this tool is hardly usable.

Is there a chance to get it working like in the older versions???

If the Caps Lock on the keyboard is on, only the crosshair wikk be visible, but if the other brush tools show the circle then that can't be it.

The only other thing I can think of is if the brush width is too small for the circle to be shown at the current zoom level then (for any of the brushes) it will just show the crosshair. So maybe try zooming in very far or increasing the width to see if the circle appears.

I can definitely exclude this to be the issue. I know this behavior and I could observe the radius change in the width-control of the tool bar.

But I think you are right that Caps Lock was on accidentally ... I didn't pay any attention to that and I didn't knew this having those effects. I checked it out and the it was exact the behavior that I noticed. So again thanks a lot!!!
