AFPhoto PNG saving returning odd results

Recommended Posts

So that I can comunicate between softwares, I've been using PNG files so that I can retain transparecny information (RGBA).

Today I was using batch export in Photo and got a weird bahaviour which was kind of a pain to solve. In the image attached, PNGs generated from afphoto layered files. Using the export tab or the batch tool, the results are the same.

Although Photoshop can read the transparency, my python scripts are returning odd results.

Has anything changed recently in PNG saving structure?

I think we would need more information about your files to say for sure, and possibly a sample .afphoto file you're having trouble with. I can't really tell anything from that screenshot.

The only recent change (2.4) that I know of is that the applications now support exporting RGB-32 files as PNG-32, where before they would force PNG-16. What this means in practice is that if you're using 32-bit images you either need to:

  • Export differently if you want the old behavior of getting PNG-16; or
  • Learn how to use/export PNG-32 images correctly, and adjust any other parts of your workflow that might not be expecting them.
