JBSJOC Posted August 13, 2024 Posted August 13, 2024 I have big problem with embedded resources/files changing from embedded to linked. I am in the process of creating datasheets for my companys products (100+), and I really want to nip this bug in the butt before I waste any more time on debugging and/or workarounds. The setup. I have a template file with several other smaller documents embedded. One of those embedded documents is a pictograph list. This pictograph list constrains and organizes several other smaller embedded files. Is is these files that change from embedded to linked, and is often missing because i changed the file structure after i created the template. I can open the resource manager, embed the file and save the document. And when I reopen the document, the same file has changed to linked. I did a lot of testing to see if i cound fix the problem, but alas, no luck. I'm running windows 11 Pro, 23H2 (22631.3880) Affinity Publisher 2 v. 2.5.3. Here is a video demonstrating the problem. (I had to learn Davinchi Resolve to add some basic anonymization, so i realy hope the bug can be fixed ) Publisher 2 embedded ressource link bug.mp4 In the video I do the following (summerized): 1. Open the document. 2. Open the embedded "Pictographs.afpub". 3. Open the resource manager to show the "Pictographs - CE.afpub" is linked. 4. Change it to embedded. 5. Save and close the document. 6. Repeat 1-5 to show the problem persists. 7. Repeat 1-5 again, but this time i replace the document before changing to embed. 8. Repeat 1-5 but this time I delete the "Pictographs - CE.afpub" from the document/layers, and import/place it. This time i forget to open the resource manager to set it to embed, but that is the default behavior of the document. 9. Repeat 1-3, but this time it is a new file ("Pictographs - LED.afpub") that is linked instead of embedded, and the "Pictographs - CE.afpub" is now correctly embedded. This time the LED.afpub is entirely missing because it refers to a file that no longer exists. This is because I changed the folder name ("...(Affinity)\..." -> "...(Affinity - Nyeste)\...") after the document was created. 10. I repeat 1-3 and show that now it is the replaced "Pictographs - LED.afpub" that is linked. 11. Change the "Pictographs - LED.afpub" to embed, save, close, reopen and show that the problem STILL persists. 🤪💀 Other things i tried: * Deleting all the smaller files and place them again. Result: only the first file ("Pictographs - CE.afpub") in the resource manger changes to linked. * Place a duplicate of the "Pictographs.afpub" in the main file. Result: Only one of the small files in one of the "Pictographs.afpub" becomes linked. Other topics that might be related. SVG embeds not behaving as embedded once a document is reopened. *Should have been fixed in v.2.3.1.2212 🤷♂️ Designer V 2.4.1 Unexpected behavior of embedded files. Quote
