Just upgraded to Designer 2.5.3 on Windows 11 prior to creating this document.

To replicate the issue, I click to place an artistic text (I don't click and drag). I then type a word, select a font from my favourites list, change the font style, and everything changes as expected in the document.

I then change to the frame text tool, click and drag to place a frame text box, and my expectation is that it would contain the settings I currently see in my character panel (left over from working on the artistic text a moment ago), but instead it types in the default 'no style' Arial. Same size, but different font family and style. When I deselect the text in the frame, then reselect, the character panel still doesn't update to show what text I have selected. The only correct information is in the context toolbar. (see how they are different in my screenshot)

Clicking back and forth between the artistic text and frame text tools sometimes shows the same info in the context bar and the character panel, but sometimes doesn't. Am I missing something stupid simple? I've been using Affinity for a few years now, and I don't remember my expectations being subverted here, or having to constantly change from the default back to the font I was using with every new iteration of the artistic text OR frame text tool.

I get the same thing in 2.4.1. (I haven't updated yet) The frame text box or the artistic text will use whatever you set it for initially but not remember what you use for one or the other. That hasn't changed.

Thanks for your report & sorry to hear you're having trouble @Davideo - our sincerest apologies for the delayed response here as our team are exceptionally busy due to our current 50% sale & extended trial offer.

To confirm, the Artistic Text and Frame Text Tools have their own separate 'Default' values, meaning it's expected that the Text Frame you draw would not use the previously selected values in the Artistic text object.

The text tool should therefore default to Arial/12pt (or the last values used for that specific tool, which in your example may have been 15pt).
You can reset the 'Default' values for either tool using Edit > Defaults > Revert.

However, I wouldn't expect the Character Studio to be showing different values than the context toolbar.

Originally I could not replicate this issue, though in further testing it seems to be specific to certain fonts.
With 8 or so different Windows 10 default fonts I tried, the issue did not occur -  however with the 'Aged Machine' font, I see this happen when switching from either a Text Frame object or an Artistic Text object to a layer that uses this font:

I must admit, I cannot explain this behaviour currently as I've not seen this occur previously and as mentioned only seems to be 'triggered' by certain fonts. This is certainly a bug within Affinity & I'm getting it logged with our development team now.

As you've mentioned, the context toolbar appears to always show the correct values, so I would use the info here to be certain of the current selections properties in the meantime.

I hope this helps :)

Mate, thank you so much for looking into this! I realise this was ages ago, and I'm sorry I never returned to the post, but I really appreciate your response.
