ziplock9000 Posted June 7, 2024 Posted June 7, 2024 I have a blue rectangle that I'd like to make parallel to the white edge on the left. How can achieve this? A related question is how do I do this with individual curves on an object, but not all of the object? Quote
BlueLiner Posted June 7, 2024 Posted June 7, 2024 There are a number of ways to do this. You could eyeball it and just rotate it but I am guessing you want a higher level of precision. Assuming the brown shape is a vector and that you do not already know the angle. Here's one way for this example: Select the rectangle object and convert to curves, select all nodes with node tool and move so that the bottom left corner snaps to the line. Switch to the Point Transform Tool [F] and move the pivot point to the bottom left and rotate until it snaps. 2024-06-07_12-08-55_Trimmed01.mp4 You will also notice once rotated in place, it will show the rotation angle which you then also use the move tool and the transform panel. 20.8 degrees in my example ziplock9000 1 Quote

I've been using the 2nd technique for a while and it does work, however I was hoping there was a snapping indicator for parallel and perpendicular somewhere Quote
BlueLiner Posted June 7, 2024 Posted June 7, 2024 There might be, I just do not know it. I know a few other ways I use in different scenarios but no auto snapping method. Another great trick is to use the pen tool and with snapping enabled draw a line along the segment you want to make the rectangle parallel to. Drag the rectangle into the line such that it clips it. It will disappear but that's okay. Now select the line and rotate it while holding SHIFT such that it is vertical (or horizontal if a line is closer to horizontal. Drag the rectangle out of the clipping mask "line". You may need to flip it with the mirror function 2024-06-07_12-56-05.mp4 ziplock9000 1 Quote
