Using the nodes of 2 curves to create a new filled curve in between them

Recommended Posts

I'm sure this has been asked before but I was not able to find any entries. I am somewhat new to Affinity Designer (using V2). I am trying to figure out how to use two existing curves to create a new filled shape between them. I realize that I could create a single filled shape in this way, but some of my drawings would require that I am able to create a separate filled object.

Is there a way to create a new shape using existing nodes to "snap" the new nodes (and it's handles) to existing nodes? I cannot have any gaps between the new shape and the existing lines. I have tried to use the "snap" functions but with no success. Any tutorial suggestions?

Thanks, Michael

Select the node on the left of top line, then shift select the left node of the bottom curve, then choose action> join curve from the top tool bar. Then do the same with two right nodes.

If you mean that you want to retain the two curves instead of incorporating them into the filled object, you’ll need to begin by duplicating them. Then selecting the two duplicates with the Node Tool will allow you to choose ‘Join Curves’ to join them at one end, followed by ‘Close Curve’ to complete the creation of a new closed shape.

Excellent KarinC and Alfred! Thank you for the responses. I knew there had to be an easy way. It can be frustrating learning new programs. I was trying to "snap" the nodes on top of each other instead of using the join curve command.

I have looked at several tutorials on YouTube and have used vector based drawing programs in the past, so I understand the basics of the tools and layers, moves, etc. Any recommendations for straight forward tutorials that would help in the learning curve?

I’m a great admirer of Isabel Aracama’s work. Here’s her vector drawing of a 1957 Chevrolet Corvette Roadster, created using version 1 of Affinity Designer:

Her YouTube videos (mostly tutorials for Affinity Designer) are here.
