ScottH
Hello, I'm working with your Photo Trial software. My intention is to use it for compositing in Final Cut Pro X. I currently use Photoshop for this purpose. My workflow is to export frames from FCPX, open them in Photoshop where I create my masks and knockouts, then import them to FCPX where I assemble my composite shots. Unfortunately, I find that the images I create in your software and export as PSDs open as a blank white frames in FCPX. I tried exporting using a variety of PSD settings (including the FCPX preset), but the result is the same. The exported Affinity files will open correctly in Photoshop, and if I save them from Photoshop (without any changes), they will import correctly into FCPX. Anyone having success with this sort of thing?
Staff MEB Posted May 3, 2016 Staff Share Posted May 3, 2016 Hi ScottH, Welcome to Affinity Forums :) You're probably working with 16 bit images. If you change to 8 bit format it should import correctly. We are already aware of this issue. It should be fixed in the next Beta. ScottH
Yes, you are correct, they are 16 bit images. "If you change to 8 bit format it should import correctly." How do I do this?
Staff MEB Posted May 3, 2016 Staff Share Posted May 3, 2016 With the document open in Affinity Photo go to menu Document ▸ Colour Format and change to RGB (8 bit), then export to PSD using the FCPX preset. ScottH
Yes, that does it. Thank you!
Staff Ben Posted May 4, 2016 Staff Share Posted May 4, 2016 FCPX does not support 16-bit. The same is true for files written by Photoshop. You are best creating your files as 8-bit to begin with. Staff MEB Posted May 4, 2016 Staff Share Posted May 4, 2016 Wasn't aware of that. I assumed it was the same issue as Lightroom dealing with PSD 16 bit images. So Motion probably doesn't support them also... Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software
jws9422
I'm not having success at exporting a PSD file from Affinity Photo 1.4.2 and preserve the layers for use in FCP X 10.2.3. I'm opening an Adobe Illustrator file and exporting it as PSD - and have tried in all the varieties but I can't get it to preserve my layers. Any thoughts? Thanks! Staff Ben Posted June 22, 2016 Staff Share Posted June 22, 2016 Upload a sample file and I can see what is going on.
