Editing master page elements on individual pages / Cover PDF export.

Recommended Posts

Hi all!

I'm still in the adventure of migrating from Adobe to Affinity, and in the case of Publisher, I'm having doubts again 😅.

· In Indesign, there is an option to edit the master page elements on specific pages. This makes it easier, for example, to change the colour of an element on the master page or to delete it. In Publisher, I only see options to apply master pages or delete them, but not to edit the elements. Is there a solution?

· I have a cover page, but both to establish the numbering and to export, it is considered as another page. This causes, for example, that the content starts on page 2 instead of page 1, or that when exporting to PDF, if I want to view a double page, the cover page is not seen individually. Is there any way to solve this?

I attach explanatory images to illustrate my doubts.

Thanks in advance! 🙂

In facing-paged documents with the cover printed separate (e.g. different size or material) it is a quite common solution to create cover spread and content pages in two separate documents.

If you want to keep cover pages and document pages together in 1 layout .afpub just start a new section on page 3 with page #1.

Alternative:
• Set the document properties to start with page 1 on the left.
• Start a new section + page numbering on page 4 with #1.
• Create also the cover as spread of 2-facing pages.
First make sure this page order will match the required export (e.g. export for online vs. print / export as spreads vs. single page / export for an imposition process)

@thomaso

Many thanks for taking the time to explain it in such detail. I usually work with digital documents, but sometimes I also need to prepare documents for printing. In both cases your solutions work perfectly, it was just what I was looking for in terms of page and sheet management. I have put into practice what you suggest, and it's great.

Thanks! 😄
