Affinity Photo closes instantly [SPLIT]

Recommended Posts

Hi, I have just found this thread as I am having the same problem. I had purchased Affinity Universal licence for all three programs when it was released. The programs worked fine until recently. 99% of the time Affinity Photo, publisher and Designer will look as if they are opening with the splash screen displayed then they shut down completely. Sometimes they open into the screen where you can select a layout, but when this screen is displayed when I do try to click on something I get the program not responding message. I don't know why this has started happening. I did eventually getting the programs updated to the latest version but this has still not worked. I also managed eventually to get into Photo and disable the hardware acceleration under settings / performance but this has not helped either. I cannot see any crash reports for photo or designer but managed to find one for publisher which I have attached.

PC Specs:

Edition    Windows 11 Enterprise
Version    23H2
Installed on    ‎25/‎10/‎2022
OS build    22631.3007
Experience    Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22681.1000.0
Processer - 11th Gen i7-1165G7

Thank you in advance for your help

Steven.

Hi @sblk82and Welcome to the Forums,

Can you just confirm you are running Affinity 2.3.1?  Just that crash report is from a very early build of Publisher, so would be best just to make sure everything is up to date.

Another thing to try, is a basic reset of Affinity.  To do that, just start Affinity while holding down the Control key on your keyboard and you'll get shown a screen with a number of tick boxes on and 3 boxes will be ticked and you can just click on Clear.  Does Affinity then start?

Hi @stokerg thank you very much for your reply. I guess that crash report was already there from a previous date. I can confirm I am running  version 2.3.1 (I have attached a screenshot). I also tried what you suggested by holding control and clicking on clear. This also did not work unfortunately. The exact same thing happens with Designer and Photo. Is there anything else I can try. Unfortunately I don't have access to change any system settings due to my company locking various features down for security reasons. Any admin changes I would need to get our IT department to make.

@sblk82It sounds like the process is being ended before a crash report can be generated.  Can you try the Ctrl+Run up again but this time also tick the box for Disable Hardware Acceleration and then click Clear and see if Publisher gets any further starting up.

I would also double-check that your graphics card drivers are fully up to date and even carry out a clean install of them, as most crashes we see on startup are related to graphics card drivers.

It would even be worth signing for and installing the beta, as this will act as a fresh install and would be interesting to see if you have the same trouble with the beta.  You can sign up for the beta here

@stokerg I tried the Ctrl + Run again ticking the disable Hardware acceleration. It did get a bit further, I actually though that had worked. As you can see from the screenshot this is how far it got. When I clicked a button it greyed out a little and displayed "Not Responding". I will ask our IT dept to make sure the driver's for the graphics card is up to date and get back to you. Thank you again for taking the time to help. I will also let you know about the Beta.
