Varesha Posted December 18, 2023 Posted December 18, 2023 Hello! Affinity 2.3.0 crashes when charging a .fit file .. If a .fit file is to be loaded, Affinity always crashes. Why? It is the same whether the file is loaded into the window via drag and drop, or loaded with "Open". The Open-GL acceleration is already deactivated: My PC: Prozessor Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-10400 CPU @ 2.90GHz 2.90 GHz Installierter RAM 16,0 GB (15,9 GB verwendbar) Edition Windows 10 Home Version 22H2 Betriebssystembuild 19045.3803 Leistung Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.19053.1000.0 Systemtyp 64-Bit-Betriebssystem, x64-basierter Prozessor In previous versions this was easy ... What can I do now? I attached an example file.NGC_2237_Rosettennebel_2023-12-17_SV503_L_0_8_6Da_Ha.fits Best regards! I don't want to miss the fact that I like to use Affinity and that the functions are really good and useful! I use it for my astro photos .. ;-) Quote
Pitufo Posted December 18, 2023 Posted December 18, 2023 Hi, I've seen the same with Affinity 2.2 as 2.3, really a bit strange that you can stack Fits, but not load in the main screen Fit or Fits Files. I tested this on two different machines, an Acer 3 WS laptop upgraded to W11 Beta Preview with AP 2.2&2.3 as my new HP Victus W11 Home labtop with AP2.3 I expect as you cannot export files in Fits format, you just cannot load them neither. But nether the less you can stack them with corresponding darks, bias, flats and darkflats images. Honestly out of my archive I would like to load directly my Fits, but I could do it anyway in the stacking menu: load "one file", "stack it" and there you go. 😁 Clear skies, - Martin Quote
Pitufo Posted December 18, 2023 Posted December 18, 2023 Hi, I just had it a quick go to drag and drop a "Siril" stacked RGB Fits file in Affinity2.3 , it works finally!!!! Clear skies, - Martin Quote
Dan C Posted December 19, 2023 Posted December 19, 2023 Hi Varesha, This is a known issue and we hope to resolve it soon. Lee Quote
Varesha Posted December 19, 2023 Author Posted December 19, 2023 Hello, Thanks for all answers!! The problem is really a little more curious : A few comments on this: a ) For example, if I create an RGB file as a .fit file with an astronomy program like APP (or SIRIL), then it can be easily opened and edited, as described by Pitufo!!?!?! 😀 b ) If I only create a Ha (for the color of the hydrogen) or OIII file (for oxygen) as one .fit file, then Affinity crashes every time ...!? 🤔 But: c ) The .fit files can be loaded for stacking in Affinity! The "emergency solution" therefore currently leads through the opening in the astro program, subsequent stacking with only one file (!!) and further processing in Affinity. The direct loading of the file would of course be preferable. Lee's answer gives me hope ... 😉 Thank you!! Quote
Pitufo Posted December 19, 2023 Posted December 19, 2023 Hi, I've been just a bit curious and opened several RGB Stacks produced under AstroArt7, Siril, ASTAP and/or GradXpert. Now I opened several single Light frames from my ASI533MCp in Fits format created by Asiair Software. With RGB Images I can open them without issues. A month ago under version 2.2, AffinityPhoto crashed. So I loaded my stacks made elsewhere over the Affinity "stacking window", and I could enioy the features. Now comes the sad news: Images created by my monochromatic ASI432MM or ASI120MM-S single as stacked cause AffinityPhoto 2.3 to crash on both labtops in Fits format. Obviously there must be a bug, as AffinityPhoto2 allows you to choose: Clear skies, - Martin Quote
Staff Affinity Info Bot Posted January 9, 2024 Staff Posted January 9, 2024 The issue "[Windows] Opening FIT/FITS files directly causes an app crash" (REF: AF-507) has been fixed by the developers in internal build "2.4.0.2222". Pitufo Posted January 12, 2024 Posted January 12, 2024 Hi, Just tried out AffinityPhoto2.3.1, sadly still cannot load any mono fits files from my ASI432MM, ASI120MM-S as mini in narrowband imaging Clear skies, . Martin Quote

Varesha Posted January 13, 2024 Author Posted January 13, 2024 With version 2.4.0.222 (Beta) you can now open fits files: After opening a fits file, a menu for fits development now appears. There is no more crash: After that everything continues as usual. Many thanks to the development team for fixing the bug!! 🙂 Quote
Varesha Posted February 13, 2024 Author Posted February 13, 2024 Finally, in addition to this solved problem, I have a request for the development team: Can the export be supplemented with the output of .fit(s) - files? This would be a great practical help! Thanks in advance! Pitufo 1 Quote
Dan C Posted February 13, 2024 Posted February 13, 2024 Hi Varesha, it would be a good idea to post this in the Feedback section of the forum. Lee Quote
