Linked .ai files get rasterized in Publisher V2

Recommended Posts

Hi!

I recently updated to Affinty Publisher V2. I've used linked .ai files in Publisher V1 before with success. The files only contain outlined text, no effects and no pictures.

Now after updating to V2, placing the ai file makes it rasterized. It stays the same after exporting it as pdf.

Any ideas on how to solve this?

Hi @Rudeism and welcome to the forums,

Are you able to upload your Publisher file along with your linked .ai file so we can take a look?

Could you also confirm which PDF settings you are using?

Hi @Rudeism,

Thanks for your files and your screenshot showing the PDF Export settings...

The issue is basically a Passthrough problem which may be a bug but the solution is to go to the Resource Manager in Publisher (Window > Resource Manager), select the Group and change the Image Placement from 'Make Linked' to 'Embed' so that all the placed .ai files are now embedded in your Publisher file.

Then, select each placed .ai file in the Layers panel individually and change the PDF Passthrough setting in the context toolbar (towards the top of the UI) from Passthrough to Interpret so that every individual placed .ai file is now set to Interpret.

This will both display and export your file correctly...

I believe this is a known bug which has already been fixed in the latest Beta so the issue shouldn't appear in the 2.3.0 release version which we will hopefully see in the next week or so... :)
