  1. What Application are you using? [Publisher]
  2. Are you using the latest release version? [Yes 2.2.1]
  3. Can you reproduce it? [Yes]
  4. Does it happen for a new document?  [Yes]

DESCRIPTION OF ISSUE
I have some assets made of Fonts placed in a specific order (in a group folder)
I have some existing layers.
Whenever I drag an asset onto the canvas, it doesn't always create a layer at the top. It doesn't even create a layer on top of the current selection.
Sometimes it will be all the way on top of the layer list. Sometimes, the asset layer will be created in the middle of the layer list in between some other existing layers.
I can drag the same asset twice. And both times it may appear in a different layer location.

Attached is an example of my layers panel. highlighted in blue are my grouped assets. Sometimes assets will be added on top of the list. sometimes, it's sandwiched above 169.png and other layers.

Expected outcome:
When I drag asset onto canvas, asset layer is created on top of my current layer selection. OR IDEALLY in the same group folder.

Hi @Ryuuga,

Thanks for your report!

In my testing, when dragging the Asset onto the Spread in Publisher, I find the asset is always added to the top of the Layers stack, regardless of my previous selection.

However the 'Insert' options (Layer > Insertion) do affect the Asset placement within the Layers Stack, for the next asset added, after which the next Asset will be added at the top of the stack, which is expected behaviour -

Can you please provide a screen recording showing the issue you're reporting, to ensure that I'm not missing a critical step in replicating this issue?

Many thanks in advance :)

Here you go, Dan. Thank you for looking into this for me.
This is the particular spread that happens consistently, but I have had it happen on other spreads (and other projects as well.)
Occasionally I get it to the top of the Layer Stack but I couldn't get that to happen in this recording.

I did do a little bit more here, by messing with the text in other layers, I realized it would be added directly to the top of that specific layer. Is that an intended function?
My workflow is not as consistent as it should be so occasionally when I see errors in the other layers, I'm tempted to correct it on the spot heh.

I found a temporary solution in this particular situation, by Locking 169.png layer, the assets do eventually get added to the top very consistently.

Many thanks for providing that for me!

I believe there are a few things happening here -

  1. With no object selected, the Asset should be added to the top of the layers stack
This is currently working as expected for me.

  2. With an object selected, the Asset should be added directly above this selection, in the layer stack.
This appears to only work when editing a text object (as shown in your recording), other active selections add the asset at the top of the layers stack on Windows incorrectly. I've logged this as a bug with our team.

  3. When dragging an Asset from the Asset Studio, the app should retain your previous object/layer selection and not create a new selection.
I can see in your screen recording that when dragging the Asset from the Studio, the Layers Studio shows your object selection quickly changes and the '169.png' image is selected as you drag, changing where the asset is placed in the Layers stack. This is unexpected behaviour and I'm logging it with our team also.

By chance, is this '169.png' layer off to the left hand side of your canvas, underneath where the Asset Studio is in the UI? :)

Yes, 169.png covers the entirety of the canvas from edge to edge.

Thanks a lot for your help. I'm glad we were able to pin down the specific issue(s).
Now I will wait patiently for the fix.

Thanks for verifying! It appears this incorrect selection creation issue when dragging the Asset out will occur if the layer is behind the Asset Studio UI.
This doesn't happen for objects on the canvas that are not physically behind the Asset Studio when dragging the Asset out, and as above this is now logged as a bug with our team.

No problem at all, thanks again for your report :D
