Let’s face it, It’s the TEXT TOOL IS BROKEN IN IPAD.

Once you work on Text in iPad, whatever letter spacing changes you make on the same file in DESKTOP will not work.

Plus the LEADING on iPad doesn’t work on ARTISTIC TEXT. Only on FRAME TEXT!

Funny thing is ‘Convert to Frame Text’ does not even exist in Edit Panel.

This will probably sorted in AFFINITY 3.

ADDING MORE TO THIS LIST:

When working in Frame Text, if you use a Right Bottom Handle to Resize the text, it will not change in Tool Bar. Eg. if it’s 24pts and you resize to make it bigger it still remains 24pts and not 36pts but if you choose 24 in the Panel it will become smaller.

Also if the Characters or a Words are selected, the UNDO Function does not work.

That is a Publisher function, not a Designer function.

I don't understand that. Can you provide a more complete description, and possibly a sample .afdesign document?

Leading works for me with Artistic Text. Please provide an example, possibly a screen recording so we can see the problem happening.

It will change if you move the cursor within the frame, or deselect the frame and reselect it. I'm not sure if that's correct or if it should update immediately.

What i meant was - if you fiddle around with Text  with Letter Spacing on iPad save the file and open the same file on Mac version of Designer then, kerning the same text will not affect the selected text. I’m attaching a Designer File for you to play around with which i save on iPad version.

Thanks for the file.

First, just to be sure you know, Letter Spacing and Kerning are two different functions. Both are available on both iPad and desktop. In the sense that both adjust spacing between letters you could say they are related. However,

  • Kerning is related to a specific pair of letters, and is a Character attribute.
  • Letter Spacing is related to the justification of text by spacing all letters further or closer together, and is a Paragraph attribute, for Paragraphs using Justification.

If you think they do the same thing, and try to use one when you should use the other, you will probably end up confused.

On my Windows system, Kerning works in your Letter-Spaced text. Although it's harder to see given the Letter Spacing.

It also works on Mac.

Oh! Thanks a lot. No wonder the things weren’t moving for me because on iPad everything is mixed up.

But where is Kerning on iPad then? I’ve just been using the Letter Spacing all this time. 😭

By the way, I edited the end of my prior post to mention two things.

On iPad, the Help tells you where to locate the Character attributes: https://affinity.help/designer2ipad/en-US.lproj/pages/Text/characters.html

Quote

On the Text panel, change the above attributes accordingly or tap Expand next to the Bold/Italic/Underline/Strikethrough section to access OpenType, Positioning, Language or Optical Alignment section, for more advanced settings.

Here's a recording where I set the Kerning for the second line in your file. I duplicated the line to make it easier to see that I increased the space between the I and N characters.

I’ve just been busy trying to locate where the LOCK CHILDREN is and just found out. I’m exhausted! To be honest.

A web search of the Online Help can save time. For example, "lock children" site:affinity.help/designer2ipad will return this as the first real hit: https://affinity.help/designer2ipad/en-US.lproj/contents.xml?page=pages/Tools/tools_move.html?title=Move Tool

And that Help page explains it.

It would be nice, of course, if the Search within the Help would find that search term, too. We shouldn't need to go to an outside search engine.
