Publisher: "Show Special Characters" should also show Cross-reference anchors.

Recommended Posts

Once an anchor is created, there does not appear to be any way to display the location of that anchor in the text itself. In InDesign, there is a special character type for anchors. Such an option should also be present in Publisher.

You have to turn on anchor visibility separately with Text > Interactive > Show Anchors. There's also a toggle in the Anchors panel.

It's the same for index marks, you have to choose Text > Index > Show Index Marks.

Please see instructions for cross-references in the PDF manual I shared - link in my signature.

Cheers,

Mike

That's an odd location for it. "Show Anchors" doesn't scream "Interactive" to me. But I guess I'm thinking of them from the perspective of a printed book, not internal PDF links.

It took me a while to get used to it but I keep it on permanently.

Anchors were first added for hyperlinks hence the interactivity name. I think it's time for a change because I use anchors all the time but never for hyperlinks that I insert.

It would be great if there was an option to see hyperlinks this way. When working with hundreds of hyperlinks, it's enough to drive you crazy going back to double-check that, yes, yesterday you did add this hyperlink here, but not here.
