Affinity Photo crashes on Open (images)

Recommended Posts

I have seen this on several occasions before (v2, v2.1), and now it has happened again 3 times in a row on beta 2.2.0.1971 - this may have been the first time I am using 1971 after the upgrade a week or two ago.

Sequence:
-open AF
-close 'New Document' window
-File>Open - select 3 or 4 JPG files and click Open
-AF crashes

On the 2nd attempt it actually managed to open the files (3 JPG), but crashed when I tried to apply a Library sequence (14 steps).

I assume that crash reports have been generated - and sent?

When I finally succeeded (4th attempt) opening the files and applying the library sequence, AF appears to be stable.

Can you navigate to %userprofile%\.affinity\Photo\2.0 (Beta)\CrashReports\reports and upload any crash reports in this folder (ideally just the ones where the date modified matches the time you experienced the crash)

Here are the files, including one from August 28  (I can't remember when I installed 1971 - I have not been using AF for a few days)

I also have another 3 dump files from August 15, if interested I can upload them as well.

Are you able to consistently reproduce this or does it seem fine now? I'm curious if you still currently see it if renaming %userprofile%\.affinity\Photo\2.0 (Beta) to 2.0 (Beta) Backup helps with the crashes.

If it does, can you send me the backed up folder?

AF came right on the 4th attempt and I have been editing a number of images since without further problems.

When I have seen this issue in the past it sometimes happened more than once in a row, and then AF would be stable again, just like this time.  I have also seen this with a previous 2.2 beta, but by the time I decided to report it the next beta release was available and so I left it.

So despite being unable to reproduce this, based on another report and the crash dumps you provided, we have logged and subject to testing have a potential fix. Keep an eye on this thread for a bump saying the issue is fixed and let us know if you experience the same crash after that

The issue "Intermittent crash when trying to perform a batch export." (REF: AFP-6375) has been fixed by the developers in internal build "2.2.0.1991".
This fix should soon be available as a customer beta and is planned for inclusion in the next customer release.
Customer beta builds are announced here and you can participate by following these instructions.
If you still experience this problem once you are using that build version (or later) please reply to this thread including @Serif Info Bot to notify us.
