Prevent automatic creation of text style when pasting text

Recommended Posts

I'd like to suggest a feature to lock the Text Style pane. I do a lot of combining and editing from different sources of PDFs, manuals and publications I have created over the years and I have created a standardised set of text styles to bring everything up to date but I often forget to use Ctrl-Shift-Alt-V to paste text without formatting and often end up with a ream of text styles listed when I want to stick to my main 9 styles set up. It would be nice to have an option to Lock the Text Styles so I can prevent auto-added styles or even be able to group them like layers so I can quickly delete all my accidental ones.  Thank you, keep up the amazing work!

I've thought about a locking styles option too but I'd still have to choose Undo or clean up the text because the placed text would have all of the styles' individual character and paragraph attributes.

I wish Publisher had a "When pasting text from other applications" setting like InDesign has for clipboard handling, perhaps with three options:

  • All formatting < what it does now
  • Text only < paste unformatted when pasting from other apps, not when pasting from Affinity
  • Show text style options < show a dialog each time you paste styled text to map the clipboard's styles to the existing styles

Both of the last two options would avoid the accidental creation of new text styles.
