I have created extensive documents with 2.1.1. Last there was supposedly an update to 2.2 that I performed. With this version I continued to edit the documents.

After a crash elsewhere, I restored an image and now had 2.1.1 on the disk again. Unfortunately, I can now neither edit my documents nor update to a regular 2.2.

What can I do?

(Basically you will not be able to open the V2.2 documents until V2.2 comes out ‘for real’.)

Or by installing the 2.2 Beta.

Thanks for the quick info. Are there already estimates when the 2.2 will be out? I would save myself the manual copying of individual fragments from the documents from 2.2 to 2.1

The last guess I saw from Serif staff last week was (I think) 3-5 weeks at that time, so maybe 2-4 weeks now. They have stopped adding new features now, and are concentrating on fixing bugs.
