I'm trying to selectively brighten my photo, so I used the selection brush to do so. However, after I deselected one of the selections, my brightening edits continued to change that previously selected portion, but don't change any of my new selections. How do I stop it from editing previously selected material?

Thanks!

Welcome to the forums elisabeth_k :)

This will happen because your Adjustment Layer has a mask that's been created from the previous selection. To edit another part of the image that is selected you will need to add another Adjustment Layer.

elisabeth_k, if you want to apply the same adjustment to other portions of the image, you can click on the adjustment thumbnail and paint white over the image with the paint brush; if you want instead return some of the brightened areas to their previous aspect, you can paint black.

take care,

stefano
