Affinity Photo 2 Laggy, crashes my computer

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm trying to use Affinity Photo to edit some small images (I'm talking like, 512x512 with only a few layers).

I have an extremely high-spec PC ( RTX 4090, i9-13900, NVME SSD, 64GB DDR5 RAM ).

However, recently, while Affinity is open, I can see the frame rate drop down. Even just moving the mouse over the Affinity interface with no file open is seemingly strenuous, the mouse is moving across the interface at inconsistent frame rates, the lowest at maybe 20fps at my estimate. Occasionally it will instantly crash my entire computer. I don't have problems like this with anything else, and I'm often running some extremely intense software. I don't get a crash log from Affinity when it crashes the entire computer.

The software has basically become unusable!

This is a recent issue, I haven't seen it until the past few weeks. My video card drivers are up to date, my Affinity Photo is licensed and running the latest version, and it happens whether hardware acceleration is enabled or not in Affinity Photo. Sorry that this isn't much help, but there aren't "lag logs" and I'm not getting crash logs out of Affinity when the whole computer blacks out.

Can it run Crysis? Joking aside.

If the Affinity programs do not generate a crash report, there is a 99% chance that there is a problem with a component.

Are the drivers for the NVME installed by the manufacturer or by Windows? If generic drivers from Windows are installed, please check with the NVME manufacturer if they offer (new) drivers. Are the drivers for the chipset from Intel and up to date?

Another source of error can be corrupted .NET Framwork components.
Please run the .NET Framework Repair Tool once.
