Problems with missing spaces when importing PDF

Recommended Posts

I'm using Affinity Publisher version 2.1.1 on Windows 11. Hardware acceleration is on. I haven't tried turning it off.

I imported a PDF that I generated using MPL Publisher, a Wordpress plugin. I noticed that in all places where there's a word normally formatted followed by a word special formatting, such as a hyperlink or italics, the space between the two is missing and Publisher underlines the word combo in red as an invalid word.

I loaded the same PDF in Adobe Acrobat to verify that the problem is in Affinity Publisher and not in MPL Publisher, and I didn't experience the problem in Adobe Acrobat.

This introduces a real pain for me, since I have no way of automatically fixing all the incorrectly adjoined words, and even scanning for red lines would be tedious since I also have a lot of words in the document that just aren't recognized by Affinity Publisher, so they, too, are underlined in red. And PDF is the only format that I can both export in MPL Publisher and import in Affinity Publisher.

Steps to reproduce:

File -> Open -> select Philosophical and Other Essays (1).pdf, which I will include in my attachments
Select load all pages
DPI: Estimate
Color space: Estimate
Enable Favor editable text over fidelity
Enable Group lines of text into text frames

All fonts in the document are available in my system. I'll include them in my attachments.

[Mod Edit] Font files removed due to potential copyright conflicts, however both required fonts - Merriweather and Lato - can be downloaded from Google Fonts using the relevant links.

Oh, to make it easier to find an example of one of the errors, search for "supposedlyperfect".

Hi @Inhaheand Welcome to the Forums,

Thanks for reporting this, i've been able to replicate this on Windows and also on Mac.

I've just got this logged with the Developers and have left a link back to this thread so we can update you when it's been resolved :)
