PeeGeeBee Posted June 21, 2023 Posted June 21, 2023 I'm still finding my way around Publisher, trying to migrate from InDesign, and have imported (via Markzware) an InDesign file to experiment with. So far everything works and makes sense to me – except TOC and TOC styles. For instance, my pre-existing TOC style is very simple: say, 11 on 13 Times, centred with page numbers. But when I change the font and leading size in Publisher, the font indeed reduces to 11 but the leading stays at an arbitrary 77.8 (I don't know where this particular number is coming from). In case there's a pre-applied style that I can't see, I delete the TOC and set up a new TOC style, naming it and choosing the desired font and leading size, but the same huge leading appears. I even delete the original TOC, re-save the file so there's no TOC included and try to set it up from scratch, but I still can't get the TOC leading to change to what I need. I hope I'm explaining this clearly enough. in the TOC pane, I choose the Style name of the item I wish to appear in the TOC, and this appears as expected, including with the chosen numbering, etc. But I can't get the applied styles to 'stick'. Any ideas? Quote

You specify, in the TOC panel, which Paragraph Text Styles within the document text will be used to determine and populate the TOC entries. 2. Publisher generates the TOC, and it creates the TOC Text Styles used in the entries. 3. If you need to adjust the formatting of the TOC, you adjust the Text Styles that Publisher created. Note: those Text Styles can be found in the Text Styles panel only while the cursor is in one of the TOC entries. PeeGeeBee Posted June 21, 2023 Author Posted June 21, 2023 Thank you for taking the time to respond. I think I am doing all of this, but the problem persists. When I edit the TOC style (for instance the Font) I can see the font changing, as expected: similarly with Font size, but I cannot get the leading to change. Under the Paragraph Spacing > Leading option, whether I change leading size up or down, nothing happens. I've made sure there's no extra spacing added before or after TOC entries (using the options in the same menu) in case it was that, but still no change. Is there anything else that could be adding in this extra space between entries? See the attached screenshot with the TOC style settings and, yet, the huge space between the items in the actual TOC. Thanks again for your time Quote
PeeGeeBee Posted June 21, 2023 Author Posted June 21, 2023 For what it's worth, I think I've identified the problem, but sadly not the solution. When I look at the Character tab, while viewing the TOC, I see a leading 'override' of 80. I can delete this and the TOC reproduces as it should, but if I then Update the TOC, the override reappears. I have no idea what this is for or how to get rid of it. Quote

Under the Paragraph Spacing > Leading option, whether I change leading size up or down, nothing happens. That is often a sign that you're using a Baseline Grid. But it can also be caused by a Leading Override in the Character panel as you've discovered. In that case, setting it to Auto should help.
