Gerhard G Posted May 9, 2023 Posted May 9, 2023 In birdphotography a dark image of the bird against a light sky can be a problem, for instance in a wood. Can a 32 bits HDR opening be used in development mode to enable better tone mapping for shadow parts in the photo persona? Is it to be recommended? I did use that way of workflow using V1 a lot, especially to enhance details in the dark bird. Or is a normal procedure better with opening in 16 bits and using highlight adjustment and curves, etc. in development and in the photo persona? In version 2, using normal basics seems to work as good or even better? Quote
Staff Lee D Posted May 10, 2023 Staff Posted May 10, 2023 When importing RAW files they usually open as 32bit HDR in the Develop persona, the benefits of this is for better highlight recovery. Clicking Develop will convert it into a working document, usually 16bit (Based on the default assistant options within the Develop persona). For most photo editing you would generally avoid working in 32-bit unless you either want to create HDR/EDR content such as 3D renders/retouching. In general it's finding the workflow that works for you, giving you the best results when exporting out. Quote
