A specific file that was created on a 2017 iMac worked fine. Opened it on a MacBook Pro (both running the latest software and same OS), and it crashed a few seconds after launching.

Other files work fine.

I tried the other fixes seen on the forums and opened the file by holding down the CONTROL key to clear the preferences etc. File opened but crashed shortly thereafter ... even when I selected NO for Missing Resources.

I then copied the file to another account on the same MacBook Pro and it didn't crash. It was missing Fonts and Resources, which I didn't re-link.

I then did a SaveAs to the test account and moved that file back into the main account.

Tried opening the file but got the same result ... crashing after a few seconds.

I'm not in the same city now that the iMac is situated and can't test on that Mac.

The fact that I can open it on a new account (without fixing resources or activating missing fonts) gives me hope, but I'm at a loss at how to get a working file on the MacBook Pro in my iCloud account.

Any tips very welcomed. 🙂

If all the linked image resources are in the same folder, you might start by renaming that folder. Then see if you can open the file on your main account. If that works, the problem should be related to the images (or at least one of them).

Sad to report that didn't work. I did have some PNG files that I've now converted to JPG and I also had a folder with 6-images as a sub-folder which I've now deleted.

What I will try now is to create a brand new document and place all the images into that file to see if the problem remains.

If that doesn't work, I'll copy all the images (about 130 of them) on to the "test account" and see what happens there.

Hopefully I can pin it down to either a faulty Pub document or a problem image.

Thanks for you suggestion Walter, I'll report back my outcome/s.

After opening the file in another user on the same computer, using the CNTRL+ Open command to delete preferences, and without Re-Linking automatically (via Resource Manager), I re-linked the jpg files (without any errors).

Then, with the six or so PNG files, I opened them in Affinity Photos and re-exported as JPGs or as Affinity Photo files, if transparency was required.

Pleasingly the file did not crash. I then Packaged the file and exported all fonts and images as a backup file.

Have re-opened the file a couple of times since and all seems as it should be.

My thinking is that the PNG files were the problem, but it only surfaced when I opened the file on a M1 MacBook Pro after working on it without any problems on an Intel iMac 27". (all running the same software and OS).

It will be several days before I can get back to the iMac to see if any problems remain with the crashing file. 🙂
