Louvau Posted April 1, 2023 Posted April 1, 2023 Good morning. Long time AD user, but new to AD2. Two questions about weird group behavior: 1. When I try to grab a group, AD2 defaults to grabbing just an element of that group. I have seen here in forums that I can turn off "Allow selection to consider items inside a group." (Or is it, turn on? And why are the buttons almost the same color when on or off??) When I do so, it seems to keep turning that function back on -- I can grab the group a single time, but the next time, AD2 is back to grabbing just an element inside the group. Is there an overall preference I can change, so groups default to remaining together? 2. I nest groups within other groups -- everyone does, right? When I select a group of groups, duplicate them, and the move the duplicates to one side, the duplicated layers are all mixed up with the layers of the original groups. IN AD1, the duplicate groups were intact and separate from the original groups. I think there must be a very simple setting that I haven't yet discovered. Maybe you have? Thanks in advance for your assistance, A Quote

I've not noticed 'Allow selection to consider items inside a group' spontaneously re-enabling itself, so there's no advice I can give for that except the next update will be 2.1 (very soon, I think, because no more features are being added to the beta) and that feature has changed. 2 hours ago, Louvau said: When I select a group of groups, duplicate them, and the move the duplicates to one side, the duplicated layers are all mixed up with the layers of the original groups. Sounds like you are marquee selecting with 'Allow selection to consider items inside a group' enabled, and so you are grabbing the deeply nested objects instead of the outer Group, and then Duplicate duplicates these objects instead of the outer Group. I guess you will have to be very vigilant regarding the status of 'Allow selection to consider items inside a group' until you have version 2.1. Quote
Louvau Posted April 1, 2023 Author Posted April 1, 2023 Thank you very much for this. What a shame, but good to know. I guess I ought to go back to the legacy version of AD. I will look for info on how to do that. Best, Anne Quote
walt.farrell Posted April 1, 2023 Posted April 1, 2023 It sounds like you should be Selecting the Group using the Layers panel, rather than trying to select on the workspace.
