Illusionsz66 Posted March 27, 2023 Posted March 27, 2023 I use SVG export in 96 dpi to ensure accuracy of dimensions reported into my laser cutter. Has worked so far with Affinity Designer. With AD 2 Beta, the SVG export does not maintain original dimensions of the vectors (comes up smaller on the laser bed) Quote
Staff NathanC Posted March 27, 2023 Staff Posted March 27, 2023 Hi @Illusionsz66 welcome to the forums, To clarify, are you comparing the .SVG export result from V1 to V2 or from the V2 Release (2.0.4) to the V2 Customer Beta (2.1)? In V2 release, I've exported the same file to 96DPI within the SVG export settings and then also done this in the V2 Beta with the same file and the SVG result when inspected in a text editor is identical. If you could provide your example .afdesign file, along with the exported .SVG for comparison that would be great. Quote
Illusionsz66 Posted April 4, 2023 Author Posted April 4, 2023 Sorry for the delay. I tried this again with creating a single vector layer with the word APPLE sized 4x6 inches. - When creating in AD2 or AD2 beta, and exporting in 96 dpi into my printer, the dimensions were preserved this time on both platforms, so not sure if I did anything else different or if you fixed something on your end, but this just worked - However, when creating the same on an Artboard, I obtained a different result between AD 2 and AD 2 beta: dimensions preserved in AD 2 but not in AD 2 beta - sending screenshots and files AD 2 beta Artboard Apple.afdesign AD 2 Artboard Apple.afdesign AD 2 beta Artboard Apple Export.svg AD 2 Artboard Apple export.svg Quote
Staff NathanC Posted April 5, 2023 Staff Posted April 5, 2023 Hi @Illusionsz66 thanks for following up, Could you confirm that your export settings between the two apps are the same? There doesn't appear to be any line breaks or viewbox included in your 2.0.4 SVG export compared to the 2.1 SVG which could indicate other settings are different. Also, have you confirmed the import settings are identical within your cutting program and there is no settings e.g a scaling factor set in the other software, as it appears in your second screenshot that the physical dimensions of the content are 3x as large compared to the original. Also, what software are you importing the files into? It's difficult to compare the contents of the SVG files as the 'AD 2 Artboard Apple export' svg file you attached has been exported without line breaks. I've exported your files from the beta and release using the SVG settings below, could you confirm that both of these import the same (and correctly?) into your cutting app?
