true_blue1878 Posted March 15, 2023 Posted March 15, 2023 So I wonder if there are macros that can emulate what the likes of Samsung and Google are currently gimmicking on their new flagship phones where they can remove people from photos with "AI". And/or any useful tips on selecting people in photos neatly and quickly. The way I have been doing it for years is just using the selection brush and slowly dragging it along the person edges until it is perfect. Takes quite a long time! So any tips (or hopefully) automated macros that can do this would be appreciated. I have only used macros that adjust light so no idea if it's even possible but thought I'd ask. Cheers Quote
Staff Lee D Posted March 16, 2023 Staff Posted March 16, 2023 More advanced masking or selection options/features may be added in the future but for now they will have to be done manually. Because these features aren't available an automated macro to shorten the workflow isn't possible. true_blue1878 1 Quote

I definitely look forward to seeing stuff like that implemented in future as its something I do a lot of but it gets tedius! Alternativly, the On1 Photo app is a dedicated editor that contains the AI masking, so you could mask in that then export a PSD into Affinity. It's a bit of a long road but could save time if you mask often and they are quite complicated. I mention On1 because it's one of the only Perpetual licence solutions I know of with AI masking. If anyone knows any more (aside from Luminar who seem to suddenly discontinue broken products) I would love to know! Other than that I assume you know that changing the selection brush size as you mask can greatly improve masking speed and accuracy, and also that you know how to use the refine mask tool, which isn't as intuative as some other apps but gives great results once learned. There are some good tips in this video: Interesting! thanks I'll check that out! Yes I basically start with a large brush in the centre of the object / person then see what the snapping is like. If its ok I'll do what I can with large then swap to small to fine tune it. I have used the refiner but its hard to get it right, and often have to re-select bits afterwards (like it'll smooth out an inside elbow bend or other sharp angles). Things can get difficult when the persons skin tone or clothing is close to what the background is. I am guessing the only answer to that is zoom in and slowly use a 1px brush?? I have just done one a few hours ago if you want to give a critique! I used the selection brush to clip him out, then pasted him back on top of the overlay/background. Other than not watching Everton, do you have any tips for this kind of thing? 😁 Before: After: Cheers!!! Quote
