Hi,

I'm running the latest version of Publisher on a Windows PC. I've suddenly developed a problem when printing that I have been unable to resolve and would be grateful for any advice.

When I select 'Print' I have the usual pop up window with a preview of the selected page. Now on the preview the page looks as I would expect and looks good to print. However, when I print, the page comes off the printer with the top few lines of print and one side or the other chopped off and the page is incomplete. The page seems to have gone upwards by three or four lines and the page number is now about a centimetre higher than where it should be. I can scale down the text and images, which then prints everything but leaves a wide margin all around the page.

I've tied adjusting all the dimensions but I can't get the page to print as it should. Something similar happens with everything I now try to print through Publisher, but the print is good if I print the document straight to the printer without using Publisher, which tells me that the printer is working OK.

It's really frustrating and I would be grateful for any advice, thanks.

Hi @rongittings,

It would be helpful if you could provide us with screenshots of your Publisher print menu settings and a picture of the printed result for comparison.

If you export your file to PDF first and then print off the PDF, does the result match the print from Publisher or does the printed result appear correctly? Also, what printer are you using?

Many thanks 🙂

Hi, thanks for the reply.

I've attached three pictures: two of the different print settings from Publisher and one of the printed result. Whichever print setting I use the result is almost identical, there may be a slight difference but the edge is always missing and the print is always too high. I have the margins set on a Master page and the bleed settings are at 3mm all round. I've tried all sorts of settings in order to try and resolve the problem but short of scaling the images right down nothing seems to work.

If I export as a PDF and then print it the result is perfect, as it is with anything else I print directly to the printer without using Publisher. I'm just baffled and frustrated.

I really hope that someone can tell me just what I'm doing wrong.

Many thanks for the additional detail, I haven't spotted anything obvious as to what could be causing this to happen when printing from the app only based on your print settings. Though it shouldn't be too relevant in this scenario could you try ticking 'Rasterise Entire Page' under the 'Rasterization' menu and then printing to see if this makes any difference?

Also, if you have one available could you try printing to PDF in the print menu and then checking if the top and side are also clipped/chopped off on the PDF result?

In case there is an issue specific to your document, could you possibly provide me with a copy of your file so I can try and replicate this? I've provided a private dropbox link below for uploading.

Hi Nathan,

Thanks for coming back to me. I've sent you two copies of the file. There has been a small development since I posted my problem: The pages now print centrally (nothing cut off the top) but where there are two A5 pages on one A4 sheet (as in a booklet, you'll see from the files) only the left hand page prints and leaves the right hand page blank. The print menu is told to print as a booklet with flip on the short side. Rasterising made no difference and I was unable to print to PDF in the print menu.

It's really weird and I hope you can resolve the situation for me, thanks. Ron

Thanks for sending over your files, the preview on your file for the booklet imposition appears as expected for me, could you try the following to see if this has an impact: under Document Setup > Model change the Page order to start on the left and then press Ok, once this has been done try printing your file as a  booklet again and see if it sorts the ordering out.

Nathan,

OK, I've tried that now and it doesn't make any difference. The pages are still getting cropped top and bottom. Do you think I should uninstall and reinstall the programme?

Thanks for trying, there shouldn't be a need to change the page start order but I just wanted to confirm it wasn't influencing or adding any blank pages during booklet imposition where it shouldn't need to.

At this point it would be worth going through a re-installation of Publisher along with a fresh re-install of your printer driver just to help rule out issues on both ends, as of yet I haven't spotted anything in your document that would cause this.

It may also help to get Microsoft Print to PDF working/enabled as a print option, so that you can save your document to a PDF file from Publisher with the booklet print model enabled, that way you can confirm if it's working correctly on your document, and you can then look at printing directly from the PDF file as a booklet. I've linked a guide below on how to get Microsoft print to PDF enabled.

Hi Nathan,

Thanks for the reply. I've reinstalled Publisher and my printer software but all to no avail, it hasn't made the slightest difference to the printing of my booklet.

However, I must thank you for the Print to PDF tip, that works well. It saves as a PDF in the order it would print from Publisher and it prints well with no cut-offs, thanks again. At least I can now get on with the booklet.

As for the printing problems... Well I don't know what to do about that so I guess I'll have to use PDF Print all the time, not ideal but it's a good work around.

Thanks

i am having a similar problem. Although I am running on MACBook Pro. But for the past 3 months each time I go to print a full page png or jpeg it will print to the edge on one end and then leave over 1/4" border on the other end. But yet in preview, it looks perfect with an even white border all the way around it. I am using an Epson Ecotank printer and after contacting them 4 times and uninstalling the printer and drivers and updating it worked 1-2 times then stopped again centering on the page. Today after calling them again they had me try it in Microsoft Word and also adobe and it worked perfectly. So they said I need to contact Affinity Tech support. Which I did send an email but so far no answer. In the meantime I had my daughter print the exact file on her Affinity Version one with the exact Epson printer and it worked great. So that led me to believe it is this version 2 that is the culprit.
