How to apply a partial gradient to an image

Hi all,

I want to apply a gradient to the bottom of an image, ideally to cover only the bottom 20%. I have saved files in both .afphoto and jpg.

Is there any way to do this? I don't want to use blend modes or apply it as a mask to an image adjustment.

Is there any way to do this?

Is this like to fade out the bottom of an image or to add a colour gradient (from one colour to another) to the bottom of the image?

It could be either. I just want to apply a gradient to the bottom of the image.

One easy way to do what I think you want to do is to add a Rectangle the same size as the image and then use the Gradient Tool to add a gradient fill to that Rectangle, making one or more of the gradient stops transparent (0% Opacity).

You can make the Rectangle layer a child layer of the image layer so they move around together.

See attached image where I have top two gradient stops at 0% Opacity.
