Hello Everybody,

I tried to import a PDF file on Affinity Publisher v. 2.0.4 for MacOS (but it also happen in iPad) in order to modify the text in it.

Part of the text is recognized as "Text" and I was able to modify it without any problem but other text part was recognized as "curve" (each letter is recognized as a single curve) as you can see in the following screenshots.

How can I resolve it?

Thank you

@ANurse97, where did the original pdf come from, was it an external source or one that you created yourself? If the former, it's quite ikely that whoever created converted those particular text elements to curves before exporting to pdf... If this is the case then there isn't any way to make that particular text editable again in publisher...

Are you able to check with whoever created the pdf and ask if they can provide the pdf with embeded, editable text?

With recent macOS system and the preview app, you can have an OCR that is working quite well, you could copy the text while viewing the PDF in preview.

It was created by my former coworker but he doesn’t have the source file anymore…

the only way out is to “re-write” all the text manually or copy from OCR by preview, right?

If you have access to a recent iPhone, iPhone XS, iPhone XR, or later running iOS 15 or later you could use the Live Text feature to take a photo of the Publisher text on screen  with the iPhone camera and then simply copy the live text and paste to replace the outlined text directly into your Publisher document. I use it all the time and it is a huge time saver and an amazingly useful feature.

Happy to do this for you if you are able to upload the file or DM me with it if its not for general sharing.
