Help/Support Wanted with Book-writing project using Publisher

Recommended Posts

Hi

I am in the middle of a long term book-writing project about my local football club's history, and need someone to help educate me (via Zoom or similar) how to do some fairly basic things. Having entered a fair amount of the text, I am now struggling to get to grips with aspects such as

  • Text flow
  • Inserting and manipulating images
  • Sections
  • Table of Contents
  • Inserting charts
  • Page anchors
  • Indexing

I have tried various online tutorials but to be honest I struggle to learn from them.

It would ideally need to be someone who has an interest in football please so that it is not too painful an experience!

I am not exactly a software novice, but need some guidance having got a bit stuck!

Hoping this sort of post is permitted, and that someone is interested enough to help.

Thank you

Since this sort of thing would be a major undertaking for someone to volunteer helping with, it might be better if you asked for help with specific things, with each thing in its own new thread.

E.g. How do I get charts from <this software> into my Affinity document?

By doing it that way you will not only (probably) get more help but the individual discussions could also help other people who have the same issues.

If you create new threads, please try to give as many details as possible up-front - preferably with documents, examples, screenshots, etc. - so the person trying to help doesn’t have to ask too many follow-up questions about what you are trying to do.

spyderbryin, I don't know if you've resolved this issue or not, but I can recommend a Udemy course on Publisher offered by Tim Wilson. You can set up a free account with Udemy and then shoot him a message, asking if either his Version 1 or Version 2 courses cover the topics you need help with. I subscribed to the Version 1 course because I didn't have Version 2 at the time, and am very pleased with his presentation of material. There's a 30-day money back guarantee if it turns out to not be what you wanted. Udemy is excellent regarding their refund policy.  (I am not affiliated with either Tim Wilson or Udemy in any way.)

Good luck with your project. 😊

From Tim Wilson's "About this Course" page:

The course includes the following:

  • Overview of what Affinity Publisher actually does

  • Looking at the interface and where to find things

  • How to setup and create various types of documents

  • Principles of color (such as RGB and CMYK)

  • Interaction with the Photo persona (part of the Affinity Suite)

  • The basics of typography and how to use it within Affinity Publisher

  • Working with images and graphical shapes to make your projects "pop"!

  • Working with double page spread documents

  • Using image frames with intelligent scaling options

  • Creating text wrapping with fine padding control

  • Linking multiple text frames together across your document

  • Exciting projects to help you remember and put into practice what you've learned
