APub V2- iPad -Pages Document PDFs Import with Rectangular Shapes as Backgrounds

Recommended Posts

Another curiosity….after exporting an all Text Document from Pages as a PDF, then Importing into APublish V2…every single line of Text is formatted as Individual Lines of Text not as complete unified Paragraphs or Text Frames. (Noted for reasons why in another post)

What I noticed now, is that there are Rectangles (filled with white) included as individual Layers…beneath the already individual Lines of Text…doubling the Layer amounts.
If you happen to use Move Tool to select something, can inadvertently move the underlying included rectangle as well.

If you scroll down and select all of the rectangles, simply to delete them….the Text and Paragraphs remain visible as always due to the Document Setting being Blank in general. If adding say a Colored Rectangle beneath…it obviously changes the Background as you’d think.

But why are there Individual Rectangles per Line of Paragraph Text, being added WITH importing a Pages PDF Text Only Document?

Tried creating and opening a Word Doc, but while can create one, was Greyed out when trying to open in APublisher….and PDF is only way to Export/Import….All others versions couldn’t even open in Pub.

Nothing is being added while importing. The background rectangles are being added by Pages while exporting.
No idea why. Possibly Apple wanted to avoid transparent background by "all means necessary"…? :)
(tested with Pages 10.3.5 on MacOS Catalina, PDF cracked open by VectorStyler with same result as Designer/Publisher v2)

I figured as much…coming from Pages, that is. Guess the old Copy/Paste is simply the way to go for now….but for say a 20+ page Doc? oh Dear!😳

  1. select one of those rectangles
  2. Select > Select Same > Fill & Stroke Color
  3. delete
  4. Voilà.
