Issue w/ locked layers

Recommended Posts

I edited a pre-existing PDF document. Opened/imported fine. I added a layer and locked the original one to add my new content to the document only on the new layer.

However, locking the base layer did not work as expected. With the new layer selected, new items would add to the locked layer. I would move the item to the new (unlocked) layer. If I copied the object (text), then the copy would also go on the locked layer. If I tried to EDIT the object while on the locked layer, then the lock seemed to take affect and disallow me to edit it.

Perhaps I am doing something wrong, but I thought I would report it if there is an issue with the new release.

Hi @mGecko,

Welcome to the Affinity Forums :)
Thanks for your report and our sincerest apologies for the delayed response here. We are exceptionally busy following the release of V2 and we thank you for your continued patience and understanding here.

I can confirm that when 'locking' a layer in Affinity, this is designed to stop the layer from being directly selected on the canvas, as per our helpfile on this subject:

Quote

Lock/Unlock Lock/Unlock—Click to lock or unlock selected items to prevent accidental selection and transformation.

Therefore it is expected that you can still add or remove objects to this layer, within the Layers Studio.

I hope this clears things up!
