How do I make the inner circle of this doughnut-shaped pie chart transparent, like the outer area of the pie chart on Affinity Photo?

I have used the freehand magnetic selection tool around the edges of the outer circle to make the outer area transparent but I cannot figure out how to make the inner area transparent as well.

Thanks,

Daniel

Welcome to the forums @Daniel_

In this case you can use the Flood Select Tool, then Grow the selection and then press Delete (I used Cut in the video).
See attached video (where I have added a blue rectangle to show that the centre is being ‘erased’).
There will be other methods, with differing results.

Note that you will probably also need to ‘erase’ the little bit of white under the “2%”.

P.S. You might have been better-off making this with shapes rather than pixels/rasterising but I don’t know how you came to have this design.

Hi @GarryP

Thanks for the response. I tried the flood selection tool but when I click the inner area; nothing happens. I think it has something to do with my flood selection tool being orange at the end instead of purple like yours?

It's just a ms word piechart i copy and pasted but If I can't do it this way then next time I'll create the shapes myself 😄

Thanks,

Daniel

It sounds like you are using V1 whereas I’m using V2 – hence the difference in the icons – but the tool should work pretty-much the same way in both.

Have a look at your Context Toolbar settings while using the tool and see if they are the same as mine in the video.

I don't know what version of Word you have but you can format the chart area to have no fill and so be transparent.

I have Word 16.67

  1. Select insert Chart > Pie > Doughnut
  2. This opens Excel and places some example data into a few cells, you can change the data in those cells and then just close Excel.

  3. Now you can format the Chart area to have no fill

This should give you a nice chart with no white background to mess around with.
