Antony W Posted November 13, 2022 Posted November 13, 2022 Hi, one of my biggest bug-bears with all DTP software is how unintuitive it is to add a page at the end of a section if you make a change such as the font size, increasing the number of pages the text fills. If using parent pages and sections, and wanting a different parent page at the beginning of each section (ie because you don't want a header at the beginning of a chapter), it's really important that the section breaks move with your text. This doesn't seem to happen with Affinity Publisher (or Adobe InDesign, for that matter). I know I can manually add pages to extend the section, and the section breaks move accordingly, but this doesn't happen if I make a change to the text (by changing font size, adding more text or adding a picture), pushing a chapter break onto the next page - the section break is left behind, and the parent page for the first page of a new section/chapter is then in the wrong place. Please tell me I'm missing something!!! Quote

It would be great if we could have Master/Parent pages applied according to whether or not this Actual Page is a section break, or if it has a particular Paragraph Style applied. I think this would be perhaps doable if we have only two Master/Parent pages, Basic and Section Start. Then it would be a simple "If Section Then apply Section Start Else apply Basic". But what if we have Basic, Page with Pictures and Section Start. How would I know to apply Basic or Page with Pictures to pages once a section moves because I have added some additional text earlier? I would like to see the ability to search for applied Master/Parent pages in the Find and Replace window, no need to do any replacing, just find them. I don't see why this isn't a standard feature. For formatting novels, I still use Microsoft Word because, though it is incredibly unintuitive, it does enable you to do what I want - not using master pages, but by allowing different first pages to sections. Word is horrible when adding pictures though. Quote
