jenbc413 Posted October 18, 2022 Posted October 18, 2022 Hi - I'm using Affinity Publisher on a Windows 10 pc. Ever since I tried to update to version 1.10.0 of Affinity Publisher, I experienced crashes right after launching the program whenever I tried to open a file to work on. I didn't have time to troubleshoot, so I reverted back to version 1.09.2. That does not crash for me. I tried again to update to the latest version, 1.10.4 and it crashes as soon as I try to open a file. I see other threads about a Windows update being at fault in other cases, but not sure it applies here. I don't want to undo the wrong Windows update. I'd be happy to provide a crash report if someone can tell me the best way to access it on Windows. Thank you for any suggestions Quote
v_kyr Posted October 18, 2022 Posted October 18, 2022 Welcome! Look at your Affinity & Win crash reports ... ... those will usually tell & help to encircle the cause of all evil here! jenbc413 1 Quote ☛ Affinity Designer 1.10.8 ◆ Affinity Photo 1.10.8 ◆ Affinity Publisher 1.10.8 ◆ OSX El Capitan ☛ Affinity V2.3 apps ◆ MacOS Sonoma 14.2 ◆ iPad OS 17.2
Dan C Posted October 18, 2022 Posted October 18, 2022 Hi @jenbc413, Welcome to the Affinity Forums Sorry to hear you're having trouble! If previous versions of the app are opening files but the latest version crashes, this may be due to Hardware Acceleration, and in part your GPU drivers. Please visit your manufactures website (ie Intel, Nvidia, AMD) and download the latest driver available for your GPU. Once installed, launch Affinity and navigate to Edit > Preferences > Performance - in the dialog that opens please untick Hardware Acceleration, then restart the app as prompted and try loading your documents once again. Please do let us know how you get on here! jenbc413 1 Quote

jenbc413 Posted October 18, 2022 Author Posted October 18, 2022 Hi - I downloaded the most current drivers for my Intel Core i7 Processor and unticked the hardware acceleration option on my version of Publisher. Then restarted and downloaded the latest version of Publisher and updated. But Publisher still closes several seconds after I open it regardless of what operation I attempt. I was able to confirm that hardware acceleration is unticked with the new version of Publisher on my computer. But I can't open files or create new files. Also, attached is an image of the crash reports folder which is empty. It did have some old crash reports in it, but I deleted those because they were from this morning. Despite Publisher closing on me (which I consider a crash), no new crash reports are showing up in this folder. Thank you for any suggestions you can offer. Quote
v_kyr Posted October 18, 2022 Posted October 18, 2022 If it's not due to possible enabled OpenCL hardware acceleration, which can also be checked with this tool here ... ... and GPU drivers, then ... ... looking after possible APub font mapping problems during startup ... possible .Net runtime system update installment problems ... and possible Win10/11 updates ... are other things to look after. Though best is to always have/get some more meaningful crash report file here, thus in cases where APub maybe again generates one, you should then provide it here for inspection! jenbc413 Posted October 18, 2022 Author Posted October 18, 2022 Thank you for your help! I will try the Disabler tool. I did also restore the dmp files that I deleted earlier today (prior to updating my driver and unticking the hardware accelerater option). I'm attaching the most recent one in case that is useful! No other dmp files have been generated since I attempted to install and use the latest version of Publisher. f47ad6cf-2bc6-4b07-8e88-6aa074759851.dmp Quote
Dan C Posted October 19, 2022 Posted October 19, 2022 Thanks for the crash report provided! I can see the application is crashing in .NET, so I'd like to try a few things. Firstly, can you please download and run the .NET repair tool from Microsoft here - https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/details.aspx?id=30135 Once completed, restart your PC and try launching Affinity once again. If this continues to crash, can you please open Windows Settings, then select Updates & Security, then View Update History and provide a screenshot of this here for me? Quote
jenbc413 Posted October 19, 2022 Author Posted October 19, 2022 Great - I will try this and let you know. Thank you! Quote
