thomaso
When an .idml file is opened in APub, it results in a different number of pages + page dimensions are misinterpreted. Although APub recognizes the .idml correctly set as single page document (not facing spreads), APub seems to ignore the fact that ID can have up to 10 single pages visually arranged side by side. My .idml contains single pages only but arranged individually in the pages panel. Instead of opening such a page layout according to its page number, APub merges the pages, changes page dimensions and places all their content on that one page. This is strange because ID counts /numbers each document page, as APub does, and so the information about the total number of pages in an .idml is available to APub. It is additionally strange in the common situation where the .idml file has only one page size + a Master Page with the same page size applied to each document page, this way additionally indicating the original page size to APub by interpretation / conversion of 1 Master Page Layer on every 1 page – instead APub places several masters side by side in such pages. Also, here the page thumbnail size appears quite small in APub, can this get caused anyhow by the misinterpretation of the pages in the .idml? I found a similar subject in the Questions Forum but it seems to got stuck after a few user replies …:https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/136453-two-page-indesign-spreads-import-as-a-single-page/ Quote macOS 10.14.6 | MacBookPro Retina 15" | Eizo 27" | Affinity V1
Staff Lee_T Posted September 29, 2022 Staff Share Posted September 29, 2022 As far as i can tell this isn't a bug, rather interpreting currently unsupported features such as more than 2 page spreads etc. Lee
thomaso
Note, this is a single page document, no facing page spreads (with e.g. an additional page to fold out). The current decision seems to generally presuppose that multiple single pages are not intended but just used when users are too lazy to create a large page instead.* APub would not need to support more than 2 pages per spread to convert such an .idml as wanted if the user would get a choice to … a. … preserve total number of pages, ignore layout of pages b. … preserve layout of pages with reduced number of pages The current decision / lack of an option forces a buggy result if the page layout intends multiple separate pages – not one larger page, which is also possible in ID. An alternative could be support for a conversion/creation of single page(s) from selection(s), which would enable the user (if b. only is available) to select e.g. these various master pages to get separate pages from such a layout content. (compare AD: 'insert artboard from selection') *(well, I see the advantage if one creates e.g. a cover spread of title + back + 3rd page for spine width. – But generally?)
