lphilpot Posted September 22, 2022 Posted September 22, 2022 Searching the forum I found several threads asking about "revert" (i.e., return to previously saved state) functionality, but no answers. I tried recording a macro to reset the history index, but Photo won't do that. Is there any way to (directly or indirectly) assign a shortcut to the action of pulling the history slider back all the way leftward? Thanks. To directly answer this, there's no built-in shortcut to allow for this - you could of course hold down CTRL + Z (undo) until you reach the 'start' of your document, however depending on how much the file has been edited, this may take a considerable amount of time/computer resources. However it sounds as though 'Snapshots' in Affinity Photo are essentially what you're looking for - although not tied to a keyboard shortcut, they allow you to 'jump' to a specified 'step' in your History at any time, allowing you to compare the first image with the final product, for example. You can find more information on Snapshots here - https://affinity.help/photo/en-US.lproj/index.html?page=pages/DesignAids/snapshot.html?title=Using snapshots I hope this helps Quote
lphilpot Posted September 22, 2022 Author Posted September 22, 2022 Yes, that would effectively do it from an editing viewpoint. Snapshots were mentioned in some of the previous posts I read. Assuming the Background snapshot always exists and there's a way to reliably and uniquely always select that snapshot from the restore menu, it could be macro-ed. But even so, the file itself will still have been changed. A true revert function just reloads the unsaved file. I keep the history panel open so I can jump back at any time. I even find it useful when incrementally applying some effect (e.g., USM). I can apply it multiple times then walk back and forth through the history stack to find the best point. So I can just as easily push the history slider all the way back. I was thinking about a shortcut so it could be assigned to a button my tablet. Thanks.
